I Like to Move It, Move It: Making Exercise Fit Into Your Busy Lifestyle



Working out is not about finding the "perfect" workout, but finding the perfect workout for YOU! Moving for 10 to 30 minutes per day has more of an impact on your health and wellness than doing a workout, for an hour, once a week.

Below Are 4 Achievable Ways to Make Fitness Fun!

1. Walk It Out: Exploring your environment.

Be a tourist in your own neighborhood or city! Take a walk around your own community, drive to a local trail, reservoir/lake, or take a walking tour. This is a great way to connect with neighbors and learn about where you live.

Road Rules: When I am working on the road, I like to make sure that I bring comfortable shoes so that I can get my steps in! When we were in Atlanta for the Heart & Soul Passport to Wellness Expo, we went to the Ponce City Market. It is very walk-able. There's even a path called the Atlanta Beltline. People walk, jog, & skate... Rent a bike for the day!

2. Rise & Shine: Daily 30-minute workout.

Get energized first thing in the morning! Skip the cup of coffee and do 10 - 30 minutes of movement per day. It doesn't matter if you dance, practice yoga, walk outside, or lift weights. Just move! You'll feel great, and be ready for the day ahead. The stress of knowing that you have to work out is gone, because you are already done!

3. Party Time.

Go to a dance party or have one at your house! As a child, my mom would pump up the music, and my sisters and I would run down to the basement to dance for hours. Now, I have my nieces and nephew dance with me at my house. We take turns leading each other in the mirror. Not only are we burning calories and getting a heart healthy workout, but we are also healing in community. Studies show that ancient healing technologies such as dancing will help to heal the mind and body from chronic stress and trauma. It is a win all around!


4. Romantic Workout!

That's right. I said it! Sex is a great way to not only a great way to stay fit, but it is also a wonderful way to connect with your partner. According to Prevention Magazine, men burn 100 calories during 25 minutes of sex, while women burn about 69 calories. Being on top burns more calories, and so does longer sessions. *Please practice safe sex.
